About - Beachcombed Creations
I’ve always loved exploring and discovering, using the way I see the world to turn little finds into cherished sentimental treasures. Adding value in the mundane while rejecting mainstream massconsumerism. Even before I could walk, I was picking up shells, bottlecaps, and bits of driftwood from the beach. That love of collecting naturally turned into crafting—creating jewellery, art, and gifts from the things I loved finding, gathered up while on shoreline adventures.
Spending the majority of my life outdoors in the South of France and Corsica as child helped me to sync up with the rhythms of nature and truly appreciate the beauty in simple things. Being independent from a young age helped me become as self-sufficient as possible, using the resources available to avoid overconsumption and to protect our beautiful mother nature. Making the best out of what we have, and counting our blessings (there's so many ❤️).
When we lived on the beach we made tables out of driftwood, and kept things that the waves had washed up on the shores. Our dad helped us to make little play villages out of seaweed, art out of bones or make tangrams from bits of washed up planks. We did this to clear up the beach and protect wildlife from getting harmed by man made debris and it was also a great way to engage with the environment we were in, learning new skills. It was also a matter of being resourceful as we would keep those items that we may be able to make use of at some point later.
The fishing twine that got caught in the rocks, I would gather it up every day and then use it to make bracelets and necklaces with the shells I gathered. The shells I collected would have specific criteria, they needed to have a hole in them already, made by nature somehow. This was important, as we were off grid so did not have electricity, making drilling impossible. I never sold anything back then. We were in the middle of nowehere and I was a child (although my siblings and I would dive for sea cucumbers which we would trade with the local farmer on the peninsular above, in exchange for fresh fruit and vegetables). When we ventured out to a town once in a while we went to markets, and I dreamt of having a stall one day.
As i day dreamed away, I made more and more shell and ocean style creations, I would give them to friends and family or release them back into the sea for the mermais :)
My lovely mum recently presented me with one of these rudimentary desert island vibe creations i'd gifted her back in the day, she had kept it all these years. The frailed nylon thread it was on had been re knotted many times as, unbeknown to me, she had taken this sentimental item with her on her own adventures, as a talisman of good luck. When we last saw eachother, she showed me the old battered necklace, symbolising so much positivity, hope, love and optimism. To heal some past trauma and to attempt to break generational curses, we did a primal rebirthing ceremony and to enhance the healing we decided to undo the shell necklace and repurposed it into two bracelets for us each to wear, to bring in a new energy and to deepen our bond even more. This renewal ritual reminded me that my passion for creation has always been within me and spurred me on to create this online shop.
Over time I will be adding more items on, growing this hobby into something more is a work in progress, so please bare with me. Custom creations available, and I'm always open to feedback and chatting so get in touch whenever you like :) love and peace, Demz xxx
